Examining the musical realm of Erv Wilson, and the vast sonic universe to which his musical structures point. Wilson can be described as a "musical cosmologist" who, by creating/discovering brand new pitch fields. He has cracked open a vast unexplored mother lode of new musical notes for composers to use freely. There is a new phrase emerging that expresses not only the vastness of Ervin Wilson's work but also the scope of entire tuning field. "Transcendent Tonality" indicates something more encompassing than the term "microtonality." Many of WIlson's dynamic tuning systems have the organic property of spawning an infinite number of previously unknown musical scales nested within each other like Chinese boxes. The video interviews and other content attest to the broad impact of his work. Wilson's work exemplifies a larger emerging narrative as to how we, as a society and as individuals, can fully embrace a larger set of ideas than those currently in use.
