Swaang is a Mumbai based cultural group, whose members include actors, writers, directors, singers and composers primarily working with the Hindi Film Industry in Mumbai. The members come from different parts of India and have been associated with progressive arts in the past. In December 2012, we recorded the song 'Maa Nee Meri' in response to the brutal gang rape and against gender violence. In September 2013, we recorded Faiz Ahmed Faiz's classic 'Kutte' and released it in solidarity with the continuing struggles of the working class in the era of adrift corporatisation and privatisation. Our theatre production 'Beech ka Raasta Nahin Hota' was a dramatic adaptation of the poetry of Punjabi revolutionary poet Avtar Singh Pash. In our live shows we present protest songs based on the writings of some legendary progressive poets like Faiz Ahmed Faiz, Sahir Ludhianvi, Dushyant Kumar,Paash,Gorakh Pandey,Habib Jalib as well as some original writings of members of our group.
