The five-piece band met as teenagers in Jönkoping, a small Swedish town, in October 1992. Bonded by their mutual love of hard rock music, guitarist Peter Svensson and bassist Magnus Sveningsson, drummer Bengt Lagerberg, keyboardist Lars-Olof Johansson and lead singer Nina Persson formed The Cardigans, a Swedish pop rock band. The group's first single âRise and Shineâ was released in 1994, but the group really hit the big time in 1996 with the song âLovefoolâ. The song was featured in the movie Romeo & Juliet and episodes of TV shows such as The Office and Beverly Hills 90210. . Other famous songs include âMy Favourite Gameâ, âErase/Rewindâ and "Carnival". The band has performed on David Letterman. They have also done a duet with Tom Jones and sold more than 15 million records worldwide.
