Born in Asmara in 1966, Abraham Afewerki left Eritrea in 1979 and, like many Eritreans of the time, went to Sudan, where he was active in the Children's Cultural Group. While still there, in his early teens, he was a fam-fam (harmonica) enthusiast and Krar player and wrote his first songs. It was then, shortly after arriving in Sudan, that Abraham, in his early teens, wrote his first four songs. One of those songs was originally titled YibaraE Alo. Later, the song was re-released with some minor changes such as "Zeamina haymanot fikri iya shima" (The name of my religion is called love). Abraham was able to prominently feature the Krar in his music thereby contributing hugely to the positive development of the instrument. His first album was and was "qozli gaba" which was released on CD in 1991 on Virgin Records, followed by ‘Wegahta’ on tape cassette. Later he released ‘Tesfaya senqey’ (1994) and ‘MsTir feQri’ (1997). The next release was a collection album entitled 'Hadera' with some additional new tracks (2000). Semay (the sky), which was released in 2006, is the most famous CD of all time. Abraham Afewerki received in Whashington D.C., his Bachelor of Science in Information System Management “with Honors” (GPA 3.5 to 4.0) on Dec 07, 2003. Abraham was a singer and songwriter, he was an accomplished musician. He also played krar, guitar and percussion on stage and keyboards in the studio.
