Dennis Marks (1948-2015) was a writer, broadcaster and film maker who spent many years in television, the performing arts and journalism. He was also a persistent traveller with an interest in the culture and history of lands as diverse as Eastern Europe, Russia, West Africa and Central America. Over the years he was a BBC television executive, the general director of English National Opera and with friends and colleagues he founded two independent production companies. He made six films with Michael Frayn, three major radio series, and wrote two books, on Joseph Roth and an introduction to Opera. On this channel, dedicated to his work, you will find a selection of his films and radio programmes. Some of the series, such as 'All the Russias', include films by his colleagues, who have kindly given their agreement for their presentation here.
