It's all about expressing yourself through your choices. Games offer us a variety of choice via their mechanics or their worldbuilding and we constantly express ourselves through that. People might mistake "roleplaying" as playing “RPG” genre games but that's not the full extent of it. Take a FPS, traditionally not a game considered as "roleplaying", your weapon choices will define how you roleplay within that world. Shotguns are different to sniper rifles, you've expressed a character via that choice. I also enjoy series of games, where you can take the same character sequentially across the games - ideally while importing the character stats and decisions from previous games.
