Prof. Dr. Nasaruddin Umar, M.A. adalah Imam Besar Masjid Istiqlal, Guru Besar Ilmu Tafsir di Universitas Islam Negeri (UIN) Syarif Hidayatullah, dan rektor Perguruan Tinggi Ilmu Al-Qur’an, Jakarta. Ia menulis disertasi tentang Perspektif Gender dalam Alquran, dan dinobatkan sebagai alumni terbaik oleh UIN Syarif Hidayatullah. Selama studi menuju doktor, ia sempat menjadi salah satu mahasiswa tamu di Universitas McGill, Montreal, Kanada (1993-1994), Universitas Leiden, Belanda (1994-1995), dan Université Sorbonne (1995). Setelah meraih gelar doktor, ia pernah menjadi sarjana tamu di Shopia University, Tokyo (2001), School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London (2001-2002), Georgetown University, Washington DC (2003-2004) dan di Université Sorbonne Nouvelle-Paris III. Ia adalah penulis dari 20 lebih judul buku, di antaranya Argumen Kesetaraan Jender—Perspektif Al-Quran (Paramadina, 1999).
