MUJHU Young Generation Alive started on 24th April 2005 with 5children who would meet whenever they would go for their clinical appointments and the adult psycho-social group. These were Nabukenya Josephine, Veronica Kyampire, Kefa Lutalo, Namanya Martin Paul and Kiganda Charles with a name Young Positive Generation. Makerere University – Johns Hopkins Research Collaboration together with 5 children started a children’s psycho-social group after realizing that children and young people’s psycho-social needs are different from adults. HIV infected children and adolescents identified stigma and discrimination at home and at school as an important issue. Largely as a result, a substantial number of children experienced depression, low self-esteem, performed poorly or had dropped out of school, with poor adherence to medications and treatment. Thus MUJHU Young Generation Alive (YGA) was to address the unique psycho-social challenges of children and young persons living with HIV/AIDS.
