Tech-death masters Origin strike again with their new album, Chaosmos. Under a savage constellation of eight iron-willed, technically-explosive songs, Origin’s pursuit of shifting death metal paradigms continues unabated as they cross over into their 25th year. “The music of Origin is a fusion of order and disorder,” guitarist/vocalist Paul Ryan metaphysically offers. “Our music is viewed as a meaningless assemblage of infinite perspectives.” That’s one perspective, while focus tracks “Ecophagy,” “Nostalgia for Oblivion,” and “Chaosmos” splatter brain matter into the cosmos, the group’s famous triple-vocal vociferations barking for more carnage. Origin formed in Topeka, Kansas, in 1997. To date, the technicians have released seven fan-obsessed, Billboard-charting albums. Conceptually, the stories by Keyser intertwine authors Orwell, Huxley, and Bradbury at their most dystopian and rational on “Ecophagy,” “Cogito, Tamen Non Sum,” and “Heat Death.” The end is predictably inevitable on Chaosmos.
