Astronomy is a department of Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMNS), Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB), together with Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry. The Astronomy at Institut Teknologi Bandung dates back to 1923, when the ITB Bosscha Observatory was established. In 1951, G.B. van Albada was appointed Professor of Astronomy, officially launching the Astronomy Study Program. Currently, the Astronomy Study Program at the FMNS ITB offers undergraduate, master's, and doctoral programs. Astronomy is a fast expanding field of research. Indonesia, with its unique geographical location, must prepare human resources capable of making greater contributions to this discipline of study. Collaboration and networking are critical in the present period as we prepare for the future scientific civilisation. Astronomy-ITB has wide networks around the world.
