CNR Records werd in 1937 opgericht door Cornelis Nicolaas Rood en is het oudste Nederlandse onafhankelijke platenlabel. In de jaren vijftig werd CNR een gevestigde naam in de platenindustrie. Het platenlabel (toen nog vaak aangeduid als C.N. Rood BV) verwierf de distributierechten van enkele buitenlandse pop- en klassieke platenlabels. De jaren 60 worden gekenmerkt door de vele hits van artiesten zoals Heintje, Gert Timmerman, De Selvera’s, John Lamers en Rocco Granata. Na inmiddels een enorme catalogus te hebben opgebouwd gaat het succes verder in de jaren 70 met de successen van onder andere Andre van Duin, Willy Alberti, Trio Hellenique en Francis Goya. CNR is niet meer weg te denken uit de muziekindustrie wanneer in de jaren 80 artiesten als Gordon, René Froger en Benny Neyman hun eerste successen boeken. Internationaal scoorde CNR/Arcade hits met 2 Brothers on the 4th Floor, Doop, Synthesizer Greatest en Twenty 4 Seven.
