Ý Lan là con gái của nữ ca sĩ nổi tiếng nhất Việt Nam - Thái Thanh. Cha cô là ngôi sao điện ảnh Lê Quỳnh. Mặc dù sinh ra trong một gia đình nghệ thuật và từ khi còn nhỏ, Ý Lan đã yêu thích hát và biểu diễn, nhưng cô cho biết không nhận được sự động viên nào từ cha mẹ để theo đuổi con đường nghệ thuật. Thực tế, Ý Lan không bắt đầu hát chuyên nghiệp cho đến vài năm trước đây. Theo lời của Ý Lan, khi cô còn ở Việt Nam, cô được khuyến khích học hành thay vì nghệ thuật. Ý Lan is the daughter of Vietnam's most prolific singer, Thái Thanh. Her father is Vietnam's film star Le Quynh. Although she was born into an artistic family, and as a child, Y Lan loved to sing and perform, she claimed to receive no encouragement from her parents to follow in their footsteps. In fact, Y lan did not start singing professionally until a few years ago. According to Y Lan, she was encouraged to pursue education instead of the arts while growing up in Vietnam.
