LEMBAGA PERS Bahana Mahasiswa Universitas Riau berdiri tahun 1983. Bahana Mahasiswa (BM) merupakan wadah bagi mahasiswa Universitas Riau menyalurkan bakat dan minat di dunia tulis-menulis, khususnya dunia jurnalistik. Di BM para kru diajarkan kreatif membuat tulisan, puisi, majalah, buletin, buku, fotografi, layouter dan desain grafis. Sejarah berdirinya Bahana Mahasiswa (BM) tidak lepas dari sejarah rezim orde baru. Rezim yang mengekang kebebasan media informasi atau pers. Demikian juga dengan BM, tepatnya tahun 1982. Hampir semua fakultas ketika itu memiliki koran tersendiri. Seperti Politea (FISIP), Gaung (FKIP), Estuaria (Faperika), Ekonomika (FE), dan BETA (FMIPA). Di tahun itu pula muncul gagasan agar Unri memilki media informasi. Akhirnya kolaborasi antara pihak rektorat dan sekumpulan mahasiswa Unri, maka dileburlah menjadi satu media informasi.
