https://www.carpathianadventures.eu Romania... Europe's enduro mecca. And a great chance to ride the same tracks. But I actually want to talk about China in this video. And whether Chinese motorbikes and Chinese products are a good thing or not. Two years ago, I reported on the first two stroke enduro bike from China, with the engine based on an old Yamaha design and bits and pieces borrowed from other brands. And then I followed up with a review of a Chinese 450 which copied Honda's old CRF450X design. I asked if this was a good thing. Could China finally lift its quality control, produce reliable bikes and give us good budget dirt bikes? Unfortunately, it turns out the Chinese factory producing the 450 never purchased the rights to copy Honda's design, despite telling hopeful importers otherwise. I became a bit more disillusioned when I began to investigate boots lately. So many brands that were previously known for good quality had dropped in recent year and the common theme here seems to be they are no longer made in their country of origin. Moose boots? Made in China. ditto for Oneal boots. Fly motorbike boots. Thor. And Fox boots. And speaking of Fox, it turns out the vast majority of their gear is now made in China. And the general consenus among long term riders is that this formerly passsionate US based brand has been on a long slow decline in quality as they rely more on Chinese made products. The fact is, most motorcycles have some Chinese components and most motorcycle accessories and rider gear such as jackets and helmets are made in China. Even established European brands get much of their gear made in China. Of course, some Chinese made products can be good quality, if western standards of quality control are introduced and rigorously enforced. We certainly hope this is the case, as KTM is now having some of their bikes made in China now. But is this a good thing? Since the well known incidents in China it has become more authoritarian instead of becoming more democratic. China has just killed a number of Indian soldiers along their border. They are claiming local seas as their own and building illegal bases. Up to a million of a muslim minority group are confined to camps within China. China has been throwing its economic might into punishing countries like Australia recently. Oline attacks are either sponsored by the Chinese government, or at the very least allowed to occur. Anybody know of US companies (or other) who manufacturer riding gear (jerseys, pants, etc) not manufactured in China? I am thinking KLIM off the top of my head? So what do you guys think about motorbike gear made in China? Does it really matter where our dirt bike products are made? Overall, is it a good thing that so much of our stuff is now made in China because we pay less? Keen to hear your opinions about motorbike boots made in China. If it does matter, I might put some work into discovering more about where all our gear is made such as motorbike boots made in China - Oneal, Fly, Thor and Fox. Would you wear a Chinese-made helmet, jacket, gloves, or motorcycle, in the wake of the escalating trade war with Australia? Here is a typical comment on the forums: "I'm not averse to buying equipment that's made in China, but at the same time, if I'm paying a premium for a brand, I'd prefer their manufacturing be based in the US, Europe or Japan. I'm specifically looking for a helmet and a jacket; can anyone who purchased some motorcycle gear recently share what they purchased an where it was made?"Let me know what you think about motorbikes built in China in the comments. But please no outright racist comments! Check out Carpathian adventures... and comment on riding gear made in China too.
