Snorlax is a Pokemon from the first series and its backstory is very different from any other Pokemon. As it was revealed on the Nintendo homepage in 2018, its looks was inspired by one of the early developers of the game called Nishino-san. In Japanese Pokemon, Snorlax is called Kabigon. Why? Because Kabigon was Nishino-san’s nickname. There was a monster called “カネゴン Kanegon” in the old Ultraman series in the 20th century. It ate money as a staple and its intestines could distinguish between genuine money and counterfeit money. Do not ask me why 😂. カビ Kabi = “mold” in Japanese. And Nishino-san was called Kabigon, not Kanegon. So I’m sorry for my stereotype of associating a chubby guy with appetite, but maybe Nishino-san ate a lot, even if it was molding a little bit 😂. And I’m quite positive that he must have looked really happy when he was asleep, thus Snorlax’s sleepy looks.
