"Calling Doctor Gillespie" - Written and arranged by Edwin A. Finckel, a self-taught jazz pianist and composer. What you are seeing is a screen recording of my laptop as I transcribe a an audio recording in real time. The process took a little less than two hours. I then condensed that video to fit the length of the song I transcribed. This is my first attempt at this kind of video. There are a couple of adjustments I've already made since finishing the transcription process: I took the altos off the main melody because they cannot play the low concert C. I have also adjusted a couple of accidentals to read better. I always do this kind of stuff at the end but I didn't want to have the video include me slowly panning through the score over and over at the end. I'm using Finale 2010 for notation and Transcribe for navigating the audio file. Transcribe does not give me any of the answers, it's main use, and the main reason I use it, is to quickly maneuver around the audio file to listen to the spots I need to, rather than queuing up 5-10 seconds before a moment I need to hear, which I used to have to deal with when I first began transcribing using iTunes. I transcribe by ear and don't use my trumpet or a piano. I don't have perfect pitch.
