Constantine Koukias and Dutch spatial designer Willem van Erven Dorens unveil a groundbreaking work that transforms the invisible force of dark energy into a live sonic spectacle. VAST is directly inspired by the Nobel Prize–winning discovery by Australian astrophysicist Brian Schmidt and American astrophysicists Adam Riess and Saul Perlmutter, whose pioneering observations revealed a universe not only expanding but accelerating under the influence of dark energy. The universe is accelerating in its expansion, so it is expanding faster and faster. We do not yet know why this is happening. Forget conventional concerts. Inside a transformed Theatre Royal, a bespoke spatial‑audio system reshapes the room into a 360° universe of sound, where more than 120 recorded voices and 80 instrumentalists break apart into sonic “particles” that swirl, collide, and drift like unstable matter in an invisible field. What you hear depends entirely on where you sit. No two seats share the same journey. The international ensemble features Australian pianist Gabriella Smart, American soprano Katharine Dain, English tenor Tyrone Landau, Tasmanian musicians Jennifer Owen (violin), Yoram Levy (trumpet), Celia Craig (Cor Anglais, SA), Jason James (lighting designer), Live Sound Engineer | Ian Wollstein, Donald Bate (live delay operator). Producer | Frances Butler and Associate Producers | Strange Charm Productions. "I imagine the audience hanging weightless in the dark, drifting between unseen galaxies while their own heartbeat quietly locks into the music’s undertow, a vastness you disappear into." — Constantine Koukias, composer Musicians Piano | Gabriella Smart Soprano | Katharine Dain Tenor | Tyrone Landau Violin | Jennifer Owen Cor Anglais | Celia Craig Trumpet | Yoram Levy Music & Tape | Constantine Koukias Tape & Spatial Design | Willem van Erven Dorens Lighting Designer | Jason James Live Sound Engineer | Ian Wollstein Live Delay Operator | Donald Bate Editor | Eric de Clercq Lighting Operator | Jason James Stereo Sound Mixer | Donald Bate Videography | Caleb Miller Score Editor | Milan S.
