Join our family as we explore Lagos Portugal and the stunning Algarve coast during our worldschooling journey through Europe. In this Portugal travel vlog, we share beaches, coastal adventures, family travel experiences, pickleball, and what itโs like traveling Portugal with teenagers. After celebrating Christmas and New Yearโs with our worldschooling travel family, we continued our Portugal adventure expecting one thingโand ended up experiencing something completely different. Thatโs the reality of full-time family travel: the unexpected moments often become the memories you remember most. We spent the holidays doing what we do bestโbeing together. There was water pong, competitive table football, an epic dance party, and a karaoke night that proved confidence matters far more than talent. It wasnโt fancy, but it was joyful, loud, connected, and exactly where we wanted to be as one year ended and another began. Worldschooling is about more than visiting new places. Itโs about creating community, building traditions wherever you are, and showing our kids that home is not just a locationโitโs the people you share life with. Then Portugal threw us a curveball. The house we were renting with three other traveling families developed a serious mold problem. Black mold appeared throughout the property, including bedrooms, the dining room, laundry room, and entryway. We had no choice but to leave early and find a new place to stay. Traveling full-time teaches you flexibility. Plans change, challenges happen, and you learn to adapt. Our travel friends created new plans. The Crabtrees left Portugal early and traveled to Turkey after Mel broke his wrist on Christmas Eve. After surgery involving a plate and eleven screws, he is now recovering well. The Blackbourn family moved ahead so Josh could begin training at a Jiu-Jitsu gym, while the Sigstons stayed nearby in Lagos so we could continue spending time together. We also welcomed Kristian and Dexter into our home while Vicki and Jake traveled to London to explore a university Jake will attend next year. Our worldschooling journey continues to remind us that education does not have one single path. Learning can happen anywhere. Lagos Portugal ended up being exactly what we needed. We explored the Algarve coastline, visiting incredible places like Farol do Cabo de Sรฃo Vicente, Sagres Fortress, beautiful beaches, and scenic overlooks. The Algarve is famous for golden cliffs, Atlantic Ocean views, hidden beaches, sea caves, and some of the most beautiful landscapes in Portugal. I also organized a driving challenge for Jake, Lucas, and Henry in an empty parking lot. The boys practiced driving skills and parking challenges while learning something they will eventually use. One of our favorite discoveries in Lagos was the pickleball community. With eight courts, we played often and met amazing people, including Pete and Carol, a couple who travels the world participating in Rotary Club service projects. They reminded us why we love this lifestyleโthe people we meet are often the best part of the journey. Our time in Lagos also included rainy and cooler winter Algarve weather. Instead of chasing adventure every day, we slowed down. We rested, read, played games, cooked meals together, and enjoyed simple moments. Henry and Dexter even made homemade sushi. Soon we will continue our Portugal journey and move into another shared home with other traveling familiesโmore laughter, shared meals, late-night conversations, and new memories. The biggest lesson from Lagos Portugal is that the best adventures are not always the ones you plan. Sometimes they happen when life changes direction and you choose to embrace the unexpected.
