Major Somnath was born on 31 January 1923 in Jammu. His father's name was Amarnath Sharma and he was a doctor in the army and retired as the Director General of the Army Medical Service. Major Somnath's record may be a matter of pride but it cannot be considered surprising because the military culture in his family continued as a tradition. If his father wanted, he could have set up his practice in Lahore as a doctor, but he chose to serve the Indian soldiers with his will. Major Somnath started his military career on February 22, 1942, when he joined the 4th Kumaon Regiment as a commissioned officer. His military stint began during World War II and he was sent to the Rann near Malaya. In the very first round, he showed his valor and after that he came to be recognized as a distinguished soldier. He was commissioned in the Kumaon Regiment in 1942 while in the army. On 3 November 1947, a detachment of Major Somnath Sharma was ordered to go to the Badgam front in the Kashmir Valley. Major Somnath reached Badgam before the first light of the day on 3rd November and deployed his unit in the northern direction by 11:00 am. Then the enemy's army of about 500 people surrounded his troop from all the three sides and attacked them and after that Somnath's soldiers started getting casualties due to heavy shelling. Showing his efficiency, Somnath kept the enemy from moving by firing bullets with his soldiers. But during this he put himself in equal danger of coming under enemy fire and with the help of cloth strips helped the airplane to reach the right target. मेजर सोमनाथ का जन्म 31 जनवरी 1923 को जम्मू में हुआ था। उनके पिता का नाम अमरनाथ शर्मा था और वे सेना में डॉक्टर थे और आर्मी मेडिकल सर्विस के डायरेक्टर जनरल के पद से सेवामुक्त हुए थे। मेजर सोमनाथ का कीर्तिमान एक गौरव की बात भले ही हो लेकिन उसे आश्चर्यजनक इसलिए नहीं माना जा सकता क्योंकि उनके परिवार में फौजी संस्कृति एक परम्परा के रूप में चलती रही थी। इनके पिता यदि चाहते तो एक डॉक्टर के रूप में लाहौर में अपनी प्रैक्टिस जमा सकते थे, लेकिन उन्होंने अपनी इच्छा से भारतीय सेनिकों की सेवा को ही चुना। मेजर सोमनाथ ने अपने सैनिक करियर की शुरुआत 22 फरवरी, 1942 से की जब उन्होने चौथी कुमायूं रेजिमेंट में बतौर कमीशंड ऑफिसर प्रवेश लिया। उनका फौजी कार्यकाल दूसरे विश्व युद्ध के दौरान शुरू हुआ और वे मलाया के पास के रण में भेज दिये गये। पहले ही दौर में उन्होंने अपने पराक्रम के तेवर दिखाए और वे इसके बाद एक विशिष्ट सैनिक के रूप में पहचाने जाने लगे। 1942 में सेना में रहते हुए कुमाऊं रेजिमेंट से उन्हें कमीशन प्राप्त हुआ था। 3 नवम्बर 1947 को मेजर सोमनाथ शर्मा की एक टुकड़ी को कश्मीर घाटी के बदगाम मोर्चे पर जाने का आदेश दिया गया। 3 नवम्बर को प्रकाश की पहली किरण निकलने से पहले मेजर सोमनाथ बदगाम पहुँच गए और उत्तरी दिशा में उन्होंने दिन के 11 बजे तक अपनी टुकड़ी तैनात कर दी। तभी दुश्मन की लगभग 500 लोगों की सेना ने उनकी टुकड़ी को तीनों तरफ से घेर लिया और उन पर हमला किया और इसके बाद भारी गोला बारी से सोमनाथ के सैनिक हताहत होने लगे। अपनी दक्षता का परिचय देते हुए सोमनाथ ने अपने सैनिकों के साथ गोलियां बरसाते हुए दुश्मन को बढ़ने से रोके रखा। लेकिन इस दौरान उन्होंने खुद को दुश्मन की गोली बारी के बीच बराबर खतरे में डाला और कपड़े की पट्टियों की मदद से हवाई जहाज को ठीक लक्ष्य की ओर पहुँचने में मदद की। ये है कल के 3 वीडियोस 😊 जरूर देखें ! 1.S.S.
