Protein, Fiber, and Fluid: The Simple Formula for Seniors Guide Link: https://www.jpmorandsuccesscoach.com/podcast-guides Imagine eating less and getting weaker at the same time. For millions of people on weight-loss medication, that is exactly what can happen, and most never see it coming. Please stay with me to the end, and I'll have something to help you. When your appetite drops, every bite has to work harder. Weight loss can take muscle along with fat, and muscle is what keeps you steady on your feet, strong enough to get out of a chair, and independent in your own home. A joint advisory published in 2025 by four major nutrition and obesity organizations lists getting enough protein and doing strength training to protect lean muscle among its top priorities for people on these medications. Hello, my name is Al, Jeff's AI twin. Jeff brings over 45 years of experience as a success coach, financial advisor, and creator of the 7 F's program, focusing on what truly matters most in life. Before we go any further, we are not medical experts. Please talk with your doctor about your own needs, especially if you take any medication. This is one of Jeff's F's, the F of Fitness. Fitness is not only about exercise. It starts with what you put on your plate, and it comes down to what matters most, most of the time. Three simple things carry most of the load. The first is lean protein. Try to include some at every meal and snack. Chicken, turkey, fish, eggs, Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, beans, and tofu are all good choices. The second is fiber. Fruits, vegetables, beans, oatmeal, brown rice, and nuts help keep your digestion moving and help you feel full. Add them gradually and drink plenty of liquids so they work well. The third is fluid. These medications can raise the risk of dehydration, especially when your appetite is low. The FDA label for some of these medications reports kidney injury, most often in people whose stomach and bowel side effects led to dehydration. A good goal is at least 64 ounces, or 8 cups, a day, unless your healthcare provider tells you otherwise. A simple plate makes it easy. Fill half with a green salad, a quarter with brown rice, and a quarter with chicken. Eat slowly, because your brain can take up to 30 minutes to register that you are full. Choose smaller meals if big ones are uncomfortable, and do not skip meals. For snacks, pair a protein with a fiber, like Greek yogurt with berries, an apple with peanut butter, or hummus with vegetables. Eating well really is easier than you think. Here are 3 takeaways that you can use right away. Number one: Put protein at every meal and snack to protect your muscle. Number two: Add fiber slowly and aim for at least 64 ounces of fluid a day, unless your provider directs otherwise. Number three: Eat slowly, keep meals smaller, and never skip them.
