Strider Robotics is the oldest continuously operational group developing quadruped robots in India. They operate out of the ARTPARK at the IISc in Bengaluru. Officially incorporated as a private limited company in 2024, they've developed a line of robotic platforms, progressing through earlier M1 and M2 iterations before arriving at their current prototype, M3. M3 currently exists as a highly advanced prototype, with commercialisation expected within a matter of months. Structurally, the M3 is engineered as a heavy-duty, high-capacity quadruped rather than a lightweight, high-speed unit. Aditya Varma Sagi has explicitly stated that sheer speed and varied, flashy gaits are not the primary focus of this generation. Instead, the core directive is reliable, safe, point-to-point operation under substantial physical stress. This design philosophy is vividly demonstrated by the platform's exceptional payload capacities. During field demonstrations, M3 is capable of comfortably bearing the full body weight of an adult human while performing completely controlled vertical squats and lifts. Further testing involves strapping 40 kilograms of dead weight directly to the robot's chassis and successfully navigating stairs. To bridge the gap between laboratory conditions and real-world deployment, Strider rigorously tests the M3 outside the controlled confines of indoor environments, exposing the platform to the unpredictable elements of the IISc ARTPARK campus. The quadruped demonstrates remarkable stability across varied topographies, effortlessly handling loose soil, exposed tree roots, uneven ground, and small outdoor steps. The robot is also equipped with advanced dynamic recovery protocols. If the M3 loses its footing or is knocked over on uneven outdoor terrain, it can autonomously articulate its limbs to right itself and return to a standing operational posture without requiring human intervention. Environmental hardening is another major vector of ongoing development for the M3 platform. Currently, the robot boasts an Ingress Protection rating of IP54. This classification ensures that the complex internal electronics, motors, and computational hardware are protected against fine dust, as well as light water sprays or rain sprinkles. This baseline durability prevents functional disruption during standard outdoor operations, though the engineering team is actively working to elevate the platform to an IP67 rating, which would render it entirely dust-tight and capable of surviving temporary submersion in water. Alongside environmental sealing, the team is actively refining the platform's acoustic signature. Earlier iterations of Strider's quadrupeds relied on chain-based mechanisms that inherently generated significant mechanical noise. The current prototype still produces a noticeable audio footprint primarily caused by the physical rattling of its metallic battery casing against the chassis.
