On the new Tesla Roadster, four fans at the back pull air out from under the car, and skirts drop down around the edges to seal the gap. The air left beneath the floor is thinner than the air outside, and the difference presses the car against the surface. Tesla says the suction can hold the car upside down even while it is standing still. The jumps use cold-gas thrusters, which don't burn anything. The Rocket version carries two carbon-wrapped tanks, 200 and 400 liters, with gas at up to 10,000 psi (about 690 bar). When a valve opens, the gas shoots out of a nozzle and pushes the car the other way. Ten nozzles sit around the body: four at the back, one pointing down at each corner and two at the front for turning. According to Tesla, electric actuators adjust the valves within a fraction of a second to keep the car steady in the air. At full power the tanks last only a few seconds, and refilling them currently takes six to seven hours. Tesla showed the prototypes on October 15, 2026, near Waco, Texas, and says production will start in 2028. The animation is simplified.
