Jones, the producer, screenwriter, and co-director of the film, is wise and well respected. Jones earned his respect on the mean streets of Cincinnati, Ohio. His war stories do not depict overseas battles; instead, the battles that Sweet Jones fought were in the inner-city neighborhood where he once called the shots. Produced and filmed throughout Cincinnati, Grandpa pays homage to the city’s questionable past. Cincinnati was once a safe-haven for gangsters, mobsters, and Prohibition-era bootleggers. Jones grew up at 410 Elizabeth Street in the historic West End neighborhood. As a young cat, Jones saw and experienced it all, drugs, gangs, prostitution, number running, and other criminal activities. His life experiences filled him with opinions which he shares freely throughout the film Grandpa. In the film, Jones’ character is raising his grandson Sean, played by Ahman Shackleford. When Sean starts to get into trouble at school and mimic his grandfather’s tough demeanor, Jones knows he has to make some serious life changes if he doesn’t want his grandson to follow in his footsteps. As Jones prepares to retire from the game, he continues to have run-ins with the young thugs who plague the neighborhood. Sweet Jones doesn’t bite his tongue and openly displays his dislike for new-aged thugs who wear sagging pants. Unlike Jones and his crew, these goons have no regard for women, their elders, or even themselves. Their lack of intelligence is displayed whenever they cross Jones’ path. Jones relies upon his wisdom and wit to outsmart the young hoodlums. The film Grandpa premiered to a sold-out crowd when it debuted in Cincinnati, Ohio.
