Most hardcore Go-Go's fans disavow this atypical syrupy ballad from the 2001 album 'God Bless The Go-Go's', however I thought the schlocky sentimentality of the lyrics would make an interesting combo when used in tandem with the over-the-top and hilarious album artwork, where the band members are depicted as patron saints and appear to be worshiping a bright luminous disco ball. I know that the band received some flack for their sacrilegious send-up, but I always laugh when I see the Go-Go's wrapped in Virgin Mary robes with arms extended in adoration of their bright disco god. It's just plain FUNNY! (I guess you either get the joke, or you don't.) "Here You Are" was a last minute addition to the "God Bless The Go-Go's" album. After listening to the results of the recording sessions with GBTGG's producers Paul Q Kolderie and Sean Slade, their label, Beyond Music, requested the addition of another track that would have more Soccer Mom 'crossover radio potential'. While the band politely agreed to record the song (which had clearly not been written with the Go-Go's in mind by Caffey and Wiedlin with Bryan Adams songwriter Jim Vallance), by all accounts they seemed slightly unsure about the track's merit as a "Go-Go's" number and as far as I know, have never performed it live. In June 1997, after one of the "castle" events, I got together with Charlotte and Jane in Los Angeles. We wrote and demo'd a first draft of "Here You Are" in Charlotte's home studio.
