Can kidney function improve? Can protein in urine reduce? What does a change in creatinine or eGFR really mean for someone living with chronic kidney disease (CKD)? In this CME session at SAP Kidney Center, Hyderabad, Dr. Shoeb Khan, Nephrologist & Transplant Physician, discusses the potential role of N-acetylcysteine (NAC) and taurine as additional therapies in CKD care, including their possible effects on albuminuria and kidney function. For patients and families, understanding kidney disease should bring clarity, confidence and realistic hope. 🔎 TOPICS DISCUSSED • N-acetylcysteine and taurine: their potential role in kidney care. • Protein leakage in urine, also called albuminuria, and why it matters. • The evidence surrounding these treatments and CKD progression. • Potential changes in kidney function markers, including eGFR. • Why treatment decisions need an individual assessment by a nephrologist. 🩺 UNDERSTANDING THE EVIDENCE NAC and taurine have been studied as additions to standard CKD treatment. Some studies suggest possible benefits, particularly for albuminuria in selected patients, but larger, longer studies are needed to establish whether they reliably preserve kidney function or delay kidney failure. These treatments are not a proven cure for CKD. A lower creatinine or higher estimated GFR does not, by itself, prove that damaged kidneys have recovered. Results need to be interpreted alongside the overall clinical picture and trends over time. Every patient’s kidney disease is different. Please discuss whether an additional treatment is appropriate for you with your treating nephrologist, and continue your prescribed kidney care. 💚 OUR PURPOSE Through the Kidney Warrior initiative, we aim to make kidney health education understandable, encourage timely care and help patients participate confidently in their treatment. “Umeed rakhiye, sahi jaankari hasil kijiye, aur apne ilaaj mein baqaidgi rakhiye.” 👨⚕️ Dr. Shoeb Khan Nephrologist & Transplant Physician Director of Nephrology & Transplant Services SAP Kidney Center, Hyderabad Founder, Kidney Warrior Project 📲 Share this video with someone trying to understand protein in urine, creatinine, low eGFR or chronic kidney disease. 🔔 Subscribe to Kidney Warrior – Dr. Shoeb Khan for kidney health education and specialist discussions. 💬 Which topic would you like explained next: protein leakage, creatinine or eGFR?
