The Home Assistant 2026.8 Beta has now been released, and this month the focus is on making Home Assistant simpler and more approachable without taking away any of its existing capabilities. The August 2026 beta release begins removing one of Home Assistant’s most recognisable quirks, with new Home Assistant OS installations no longer requiring something we've all been so familiar with. Existing installations won’t change automatically, but settings can now be managed through the UI, complete with protection to help prevent you from locking yourself out. Elsewhere, functionality has changed name to make it more approachable, Home Assistant Cloud has received a complete redesign, and users now have more control over how their entity IDs are organised. There are also important changes to how Home Assistant handles devices connected through more than one integration, laying the groundwork for more flexible device management in future releases. Purpose specific triggers and conditions continue to expand with new options available, while the energy dashboard, template editor, media browser, quick search and Activity panel have all received useful improvements. As always, there’s a substantial collection of new integrations and updates to existing ones. During this video, I’ll take you through the key new features, integration updates and notable changes, as well as the breaking changes you should check before deciding whether to upgrade. šŸ‘ šŸ” What’s covered in this video: Making Home Assistant more approachable The beginning of the end for port 8123 New web server settings in the UI Changing how things are worded The redesigned Home Assistant Cloud experience Changes to entity IDs and device handling New AI and local conversation agent integrations Dashboard, template and performance improvements Breaking changes you need to prepare for 🧠 Why this matters Home Assistant releases monthly, with each update continuing to refine how we build automations, manage devices and bring different smart home products together.
