This 3D print took more than three days on the Anycubic Kobra X, but finishing the print was only the beginning. The robot came off the printer looking pretty good, but getting it cleaned up and ready for the shelf turned into a real-world 3D printing adventure. The tree supports fought back, the white filament ran out before the job was done, the brims damaged the bottoms of the feet, and one of the legs snapped off during cleanup. This was my first larger print on the Anycubic Kobra X, a budget 4-color 3D printer that sells for around $349. For this model, I printed the robot in PLA and used PETG as the support interface, since PLA and PETG do not bond especially well to each other. That made support removal easier in some places, but it definitely did not make the whole cleanup painless. The final result looks great on the shelf, but this video is about the part of 3D printing that does not always show up in the glamour shots: the support removal, the cleanup, the repair work, the bad settings you wish you had caught earlier, and the lessons you learn after a long print is already done. If you have tried PETG support interfaces, multicolor printing, or your own tricks for getting stubborn supports off a finished model, I’d love to hear what has worked for you.
