When a Cop's Dirty Tactic Backfires in Court — Exposed by His Own Body Cam! I'm Jason. After 30 years in the justice system, I break down real cases so you can see how the law actually works. Today's case comes out of Panama City, Florida - a motion to suppress in a case against a woman named Vanessa Moore. The witness is Sergeant Jared Hicks, a police officer with more than twenty years on the job. On the night of a crash, Hicks needed a blood sample from Moore, who was in a hospital bed. His body camera recorded him telling another officer that he did not have enough for a search warrant for her blood. He then went into her room, and the blood was taken. At the suppression hearing months later, Hicks testified under oath that he had reason to suspect her and that the draw was handled properly - an account that differed from what his own camera had recorded that night. The defense played the footage back to him, and he said he could not explain the difference. The hearing also covers whether Moore had already asked for a lawyer before she was questioned, and whether she was told she could decline the blood draw. The judge took the matter under advisement, so a ruling had not been issued at the time of recording. This video walks through the testimony and the body-camera footage side by side.
