This isn’t the ending we hoped for. But she needs us to fight. For 2.5 years, MyLena and her bonded sister Makarlee waited in the shelter in Atlanta. Their new dad walked in and cried when he saw them.  He said, “never again.” and he meant it. They took them Both of them, with all their flaws, without a second thought. They went home. They finally, finally went home. They’ve spent the last 5 months trying to give back in months what the shelter life stole from them in years.  Then the news… Lena has anal gland adenocarcinoma. It has spread to localized lymph nodes, but not beyond. There is still a chance.  Surgery is that chance, and the window is now. Her family has already spent $3,000+ out of pocket on diagnosis. They maxed their pet insurance at $5,000. And to make matters worse, their dad was laid off from his job just 1 month after bringing them home. The surgery estimate is just under $8,500. They would never ask for help, So we’re doing it for them. When we think about Lena and about the family that chose her without hesitation We can’t accept that this is how it ends. Makarlee needs her. Her new parents, who never gave up on her, they need her. and MyLena, after 800 days of waiting for someone to choose her,  she deserves the chance to fight.
