Recently a new indie animated series was revealed and it tried to make fun of glitch productions, leading to a lot of backlash. What happened to Chimptopia? Let me explain So chimptopia made by Robby is an upcoming indie animated pilot on kickstarter about 3 friends trying to not get evicted by their landlord. In their promo video for the pilot they make fun of glitch’s gameoverse pilot. There’s a satirical version of gobbles who they beat up. I’ll roll the clip. This obviously upset alot of fans, understandably so. There was plenty of tweets with tens of thousands of likes highlighting how mean spirited and bitter the video was. It was pretty distasteful to put down a successful, well loved pilot in order to advertise theirs. Things just continued to get worse. When fans looked into the show itself, the plot was extremely generic and boring. It wasn’t very original. The kickstarter goals were basically unattainable. On the creators portfolio they also found designs made for america first and nick fuentes. Once this was brought up they vanished from the portfolio. Once the backlash increased the creator did a response. They put up a video of them being whipped by the gobbles clone. In the replies they made a long thread. They said that it wasn’t meant to cause uproar in the animation scene, it was meant to be a friendly jab. They say that they didn’t know how controversial america first was when drawing the designs. They apologise for any offence caused. Overall this situation is just a disaster, they basically killed any potential hype or goodwill for the project. This is definitely the fastest i’ve ever seen an indie project get into controversy. It’s made a really bad first impression for alot of people, me included. So what do you think?
