Google's new Gemini 4 Argon built a 3D car in Blender from one picture. Then I gave Argon, Claude Opus 5.5 and GPT-6 Astra the exact same prompts: a Lamborghini in pure code, a one-shot kart game, an animated SVG and 82 labelled questions. Real bills, real times. Full write-up with every number: https://www.kartit.net/blog/gemini-4-argon-review?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=description&utm_campaign=gemini4-argon CORRECTION (Oct 16, thanks to viewers in the comments): in the kart game and the 82 questions, effort was not matched. Argon ran at reasoning high; Opus 5.5 and GPT-6 Astra ran on their default reasoning. The 32,000-token limit in the kart test was my own max_tokens cap for all three, not a model limit; Opus spent 20,770 of it thinking and was cut off. A matched-effort rerun is coming. CHAPTERS 0:00 One picture to a 3D car 0:25 Test 1: Argon builds a car in Blender 0:58 The honest cost ($22.13) 1:19 Test 2: The Lamborghini test (3 coding agents) 2:06 Two opencode settings for Argon 2:36 Test 3: One-shot kart game 3:06 Test 4: Lamborghini SVG 3:22 Test 5: 82 questions 3:39 What Argon is 4:01 Which one for which job TEST 1: IMAGE TO 3D CAR IN BLENDER (Argon in opencode + Blender MCP) Codex made one 4-view reference sheet. Argon built 43 objects, working headlights and taillights, a turntable rig and a 240-frame camera move. Session cost on my Gemini API key: $22.13 (opencode's own count: 61 steps, 10,203,143 input tokens, 4% from cache). TEST 2: THE LAMBORGHINI TEST (same prompt, 3 coding agents in AnvilTerm) - GPT-6 Astra in Codex: 9 min 17 s, 193 lines - Claude Opus 5.5 in Claude Code: 14 min 39 s, 1,166 lines - Gemini 4 Argon in opencode: 2,540 lines, then 17 more minutes of self-testing ($2.45 on my API key) Claude Code and Codex ran on subscriptions; at OpenRouter list prices the same tokens would be about $14.14 (Opus) and $3.30 (Astra). ARGON IN OPENCODE: TWO SETTINGS 1. Argon thinks before its first token; opencode's default 5-minute header timeout cut it off. In ~/.config/opencode/opencode.json: "provider": {"google": {"options": {"headerTimeout": 1800000, "chunkTimeout": 1800000}}} 2. opencode caps every reply at 32,000 output tokens; Argon writes the whole file in one reply, so the write was dropped 3 times with no error. Start it with OPENCODE_EXPERIMENTAL_OUTPUT_TOKEN_MAX=65536 opencode -m google/gemini-4-argon Update: opencode v2 (2.0.28+) uses the model's own output limit (up to 256K) instead of the fixed 32K, so on v2 just set it in opencode.json: "provider": {"google": {"models": {"gemini-4-argon": {"limit": {"output": 65536}}}}} TEST 3: ONE-SHOT 3D KART GAME (one call each, OpenRouter usage.cost, reasoning on, max 32,000 tokens) - Gemini 4 Argon: 220.6 s, $0.306, works (9.5/10) - GPT-6 Astra: 323.4 s, $0.704, 10/10 - Claude Opus 5.5: 307.6 s, $0.641, cut off at 32,000 tokens (20,770 of them reasoning) TEST 4: ANIMATED LAMBORGHINI SVG (one reply) Argon at thinking high: 263.7 s, 16,271 output tokens. TEST 5: 82 LABELLED QUESTIONS (one exact word, OpenRouter) - Gemini 4 Argon: 82/82, 3.355 s median, $0.220 for 82 - GPT-6 Astra: 82/82, 1.701 s, $0.105 - Claude Opus 5.5: 81/82 (1 format miss), 2.410 s, $0.069 ARGON FACTS (Google) 1,048,576-token context; text, image, video, audio and PDF in; text out. $2 in / $10 out per 1M tokens until Nov 30, 2026, then $4 / $20. Benchmark numbers shown in the video are Google's own (vendor-reported). The voice-over in this video is AI-generated. #Gemini4Argon #ClaudeOpus #GPT6 #AICoding #Blender #opencode
