People travelling on National Highway 65 between Hyderabad and Vijayawada are expected to get relief from traffic congestion soon. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is preparing to widen this crucial highway, which connects the two Telugu states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, from four lanes to six lanes. Recently, Telangana Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy held a special meeting in Delhi with NHAI Chairman Santosh Kumar. Following discussions on the highway expansion, the minister officially shared details of the proposed project. Stretching approximately 270 to 275 kilometres, this highway carries thousands of vehicles every day. The existing four-lane road is struggling to handle the growing traffic, particularly due to travellers heading to coastal areas of Andhra Pradesh and the heavy movement of goods between the two states. To provide a long-term solution, NHAI has decided to complete the tendering process by November 11 and begin construction work on the ground from January next year. Along with widening the main highway, service roads on both sides will also be developed, making travel easier for people in nearby villages. The expansion is expected to reduce traffic congestion and travel time.
