"I'm positive — like, 5,000 percent sure." That's what Dalia Dippolito told the man she believed was a hitman, minutes after he gave her the chance to change her mind. He wasn't a hitman. He was an undercover Boynton Beach detective — and the husband she wanted dead was alive, watching police stage his own murder. This episode is built entirely from the released tapes: the hidden-camera meeting in the car (August 2, 2009), the staged crime scene and death notification three days later — filmed while her husband watched from the police station — and the full interrogation that followed. She invented suspects. She denied knowing the "hitman" when detectives walked him into the room. And when they told her everything was on tape, she still denied it. She never confessed — she didn't have to. It was all recorded. CASE STATUS: Dalia Dippolito was convicted of solicitation to commit first-degree murder. Her husband, Michael Dippolito, survived — no murder ever took place. She was convicted in 2011 (20 years), the conviction was overturned in 2014, a 2016 retrial ended in a hung jury, and she was convicted again in June 2017 and sentenced on July 21, 2017 to 16 years. Her appeals are exhausted — the Florida Fourth District Court of Appeal affirmed in 2019 and the U.S. Supreme Court denied certiorari on February 24, 2020. She is serving her sentence at Lowell Annex; FDOC currently lists her release date as September 12, 2030 (subject to change).
