Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a surprise visit to the new Parliament building on Thursday, spending over an hour inspecting the ongoing works and observing the facilities being built for both houses of the Parliament. The new Parliament building is currently under construction and is expected to be completed by the end of this year. The Prime Minister's visit to the site comes as a part of his regular review of the progress of the construction work. During his visit, Modi was accompanied by senior officials from the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, the Central Public Works Department, and the Larsen & Toubro construction company, which is overseeing the project. According to reports, the Prime Minister inspected the interiors of the building, including the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha chambers, the central lounge, and the library. He also checked the progress of the construction work on the central vista avenue, which connects the Rashtrapati Bhavan to the India Gate. Modi also reviewed the arrangements for the upcoming monsoon session of the Parliament, which is scheduled to begin in July. The new Parliament building will replace the current one, which has been in use for over 90 years. The new building, which is being constructed at a cost of approximately Rs. 971 crores, will have a seating capacity of 1,224 members in the Lok Sabha and 384 members in the Rajya Sabha. The building will also have state-of-the-art facilities, including a library, a media center, and modern communication and information systems. The Prime Minister's visit to the new Parliament building comes amidst a heated debate in the Parliament over the controversial farm laws and rising fuel prices. The opposition parties have been demanding that the government hold a discussion on the farm laws and provide relief to the people suffering due to the high fuel prices. Modi's surprise visit to the site is being seen as a message to the opposition parties, which have been criticizing the government for not paying enough attention to the issues raised by them. The government has been maintaining that it is ready for a discussion on any issue and has appealed to the opposition parties to maintain decorum and hold a constructive discussion in the Parliament. #newparliament #pmmodi #parliament Subscribe to The Times of India's YouTube channel: http://goo.gl/WgIatu For daily news & updates and exclusive stories, follow the Times of India Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/TimesofIndia Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/timesofindia/ Download the app: http://toi.in/3SLUCa80 Follow TOI+ for well-researched and in-depth news and analysis Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/timesofindiaplus Twitter: https://twitter.com/TOIPlus Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/toi_plus/
