How do 72-ton autonomous construction robots work? This engineering documentary goes inside the robotic pile-driving machines helping build solar infrastructure associated with Meta’s $50 billion Hyperion AI data center in Louisiana. Built Robotics has transformed heavy construction equipment into an autonomous piling system. The RPD 35 and RPS 25 use RTK GPS, LiDAR, AI-powered cameras, sensor fusion, onboard computers, hydraulics, and a powerful vibratory hammer to survey foundation locations, carry steel piles, position them accurately, drive them into the ground, and automatically record the completed work. A fleet of approximately ten machines at the Louisiana solar project has been reported to drive nearly 1,000 steel piles per day. These foundations support the solar trackers and panels that form one part of the larger energy buildout surrounding Meta’s Hyperion project-its largest planned AI data center and multi-gigawatt computing cluster. In this video, discover: • How autonomous construction robots navigate without drivers • How RTK GPS, LiDAR, and AI vision guide heavy machinery • How robotic pile driving works underground • How the machines detect workers and stop automatically • Why solar farms require thousands of precise steel foundations • How physical AI could change the future of construction Subscribe to How Engineering Works for realistic explanations of giant machines, construction technology, artificial intelligence, mechanical engineering, and the hidden systems powering the modern world.
