IRAN ISRAEL CONFLICT There have been missile strikes between Israel and Iran over the weekend as world leaders across the globe urge both sides to stop. On Friday night, Israel launched missile attacks on Iran. Israel's Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, said the attacks were targeting nuclear facilities to try and stop Iran from building nuclear weapons, something that Iran denies. It came after the UN's Nuclear Watchdog said Iran wasn't fully cooperating with them. In response, Iran fired missiles of its own, with both sides trading fire across the weekend. People have died on both sides, and many more have been injured. While tensions between Israel and Iran are still running high, world leaders hope the two countries can strike a deal to end the conflict. G7 SUMMIT Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has touched down in Canada for the G7 summit. That's an annual meeting for the Group of 7 Nations, but this year the Canadian Prime Minister has invited a whole bunch of other countries to attend, including Australia. They'll spend a lot of time talking about the worlds biggest issues like the economy, what's happening between Iran and Israel, and the Ukraine War. While he's there, Prime Minister Albanese has also locked in his first face to face meeting with US President Donald Trump which is set to take place tomorrow WORLD TEST CHAMPS History was made at Lord's over the weekend, just not for Australia. Yep, South Africa are champions of the world after winning the one off World Test Championship Final at Lords on the weekend. The first few days were a bit of a wicket-fest, with neither managing to make many runs. But needing 282 runs for victory, South Africas Aiden Markram was a cool head, smashing 136 runs and guiding his team to victory. The win is the proteas first major cricket trophy in almost 30 years! F1 Over to the Canadian Grand Prix and Mercedes driver George Russell has taken out the top spot! But the big talk of the race? This collision between McLaren drivers Aussie Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris. Yeah, yikes! The two were battling it out for fourth place when Norris attempted this very risky overtake. Norris was forced to retire, which has pushed Piastri into a 22 point lead over Norris in the drivers championship! ATLHETICS Finally, to the Diamond League in Sweden, where Aussie high jumper Nicola Olyslagers claimed victory with a leap of 2.01m, and Aussie runner Linden Hall has, well, run away, with the win in the 3000 metres. Knocking five seconds off her PB with a time of 8 minutes and 30.01 seconds! Speedy. The comp also saw Mondo Duplantis break the world record for men's pole vault reaching a new height and clearing 6.28m. This is actually the 12th time he's broken the record. 101 YEAR OLD First up to a nursing home in Melbourne, which put a call out for 101 dalmatians, to help June here celebrate her 101st birthday. In the end, they were a few short of 101, there was only about 15, but still more dogs than June could hold at once. OLD TORTOISE Now to a Galapagos tortoise at Miami Zoo in Florida, which has just celebrated his 135th birthday! Not only that, but he's just become a first time dad. They've named the baby sweet pea. And would you look at that, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. OLD CHAIR And finally, to two visitors in an Italian museum, alone with an old, crystal-covered chair. Which just so happens to be an artwork. You can probably guess where this is going. The museum posted this video to their social media, expressing their disappointment in the visitor's actions. But luckily, they say they've been able to restore it. __________________________________________ Subscribe https://www.youtube.com/behindthenews?sub_confirmation=1 TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@behindthenewstv Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/abcbtn Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/behindthenews/ For the past 55 years, Behind the News has been helping to break down current issues and events for young people all around the world.
