I keep bumping into reels/videos that use science to prove that it’s normal for your 6 month old baby to wake up at lot at night and that this is fine and great and in fact many toddlers wake up a lot so buckle in for a long ride! When we talk about normal baby sleep in studies we're really seeing what is typical, NOT what is possible or even ideal. Remember that most of these studies measure what IS. Just like studies that say that many Americans skip breakfast. That doesn’t mean we HAVE to skip breakfast or that it’s a GREAT IDEA to skip breakfast.So…why ARE so many 6 month olds waking up at night? What is typical baby sleep at 6 months? What is happening here from a sleep perspective? What can parents do to avoid being part of the group who’s babies wake often at 6 months? 12 months? I also want to make clear that none of this is obvious or easy.
