Stockton Brook, Caldon Canal and Disused Railway Line Walk in late September, 2020. Hello again. Here's another longish video I put together a few days ago whilst driving in around the Baddeley Edge and Stanley Bank / Stanley Moor areas which come under the Staffordshire Moorlands district council, closely bordering my home town of Longton in the fine city of Stoke On Trent. As I was driving through Stanley Moor and heading up to Stockton Brook I couldn't help myself when I spotted the canal at the side of the road. As it was a beautiful late summer's afternoon I decided to park up to take a closer look at the Caldon Canal and it's surroundings as I'd never done that particular walk before. My starting point being in the Stockton Brook area (parked in Stanley St, near to the Hollybush pub/restaurant) right near to the junction of the A53, Stoke to Leek road. I begun my leisurely walk by strolling down the Canal's towpath by-passing the first two locks. After a steady 10 mins walking I came across the third lock on my journey where I crossed over the canal. To my pleasant surprise I found a somewhat overgrown railway track which turned out to be the disused and partly used single railway line, Stoke to Leek line. I followed the actual track which was in very good nick I must say, for approximately 15 mins or so, taking in the unusual sun lighting which shone through the many small trees and saplings that have long taken root inside and immediately outside of the track itself. If you wish, you can find lots more information on this subject by following the link below: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Churnet_Valley_Railway Right then, now I've covered the disused railway line let's get back to my journey along the towpath on the Caldon Canal, or more specifically, the canal towpath along the Caldon Canal near to Stockton Brook, in North Staffordshire. In one word...GLORIOUS! I really enjoyed the whole experience albeit quite a short walk in total. With a bit more time on my hands and not getting side tracked ('excuse the pun') with my little walking adventure on the Stoke to Leek used and partly used railway line, I would most definitely carried on for at least another hour or so taking in the afternoon's sun rays and pleasant surroundings. All in all, today's little jaunt was yet another fine and most enjoyable couple of hours of my time spent driving around and walking through just one of the many beautiful parts of North Staffordshire. I hope you enjoy the video. Don't forget to like, or share with your family, friends, and/or anyone else who may think will enjoy it too! Thanks for calling by. Until next time, take care, stay safe and healthy. Alan H @ North Staffs Country Walks Oh, I almost forgot. Here's some more info about the Caldon Canal that may interest you.
