PepsiCo’s North American foods business planned to remove nearly one-fifth of its U.S. SKUs while also closing plants and consolidating production lines. Yet management was still trying to get snack volume growing again. The apparent contradiction was the strategy. PepsiCo was targeting complexity inside the operating system—fewer flavors, sizes and pack formats to manufacture, forecast and move through the supply chain—while directing savings toward lower consumer price points, marketing and commercial support behind the products that remaind. That made the SKU reduction more than a cost-cutting exercise. It became a bet that a simpler manufacturing base could fund stronger demand. The first half of 2026 produced mixed evidence. Q1 North American foods volume rose 2%, but core operating profit fell. By Q2, volume was flat, organic revenue had declined and adjusted profi remained under pressure even as PepsiCo reported strong productivity savings. The efficiency side of the plan was becoming visible. Whether those savings could translate into durable consumer growth was still unresolved. Watch next — QVC Made $8.3 Billion in Sales.
