It is the first holiday designed to raise awareness about the fascinating movement of the Solar System around our galaxy. The time needed for our solar system to move around the galactic center is roughly 225 million years. Galactic Tick Day occurs on a regular interval of 1.7361 years, called a Galactic Tick, and it represents 1/129,600,000 (one centi-arcsecond) of our solar system’s orbit around that black hole at the center of the Milky Way. Most people have a good sense of the motion of our solar system because it is a fundamental part of our lives. The rotation of the Earth makes for day and night; our planet’s revolution around the sun marks a year. But fewer Earthlings grasp the larger picture: that our solar system is just one among billions of others, orbiting a supermassive black hole at the center of the galaxy. And where the sun goes, we go too. The first Galactic Tick Day took place one galactic tick after Hans Lippershey filed the patent for the telescope on 2 October 1608. The first observance of the holiday was on 29 September 2016, the 235th Galactic Tick Day. This is also the day Thy Veils joined the celebration. The Great Attractor Deep in the vastness of intergalactic space, the Great Attractor exerts an unseen force, drawing the Milky Way and hundreds of thousands of galaxies toward its mysterious core. This cosmic phenomenon, the gravitational heart of the Laniakea Supercluster, spans roughly 500 million light-years and influences the motion of galaxies across an immense cosmic neighbourhood. The Great Attractor, located in the direction of the constellations Triangulum Australe and Norma, approximately 150–250 million light-years from Earth, pulls our galaxy at a staggering 600 km/s. Yet, its true nature remains elusive, hidden behind the Milky Way’s "Zone of Avoidance," where dust and stars obscure direct observation. Through X-rays and radio waves, astronomers have identified the Norma Cluster, a massive galaxy cluster, near its center, hinting that the Great Attractor may be a supercluster of galaxies or a vast concentration of dark matter. Unlike the familiar orbits of planets around stars, the Great Attractor’s pull is counterbalanced by the universe’s expansion, meaning the Milky Way may never reach this enigmatic destination. Its gravitational influence creates "peculiar velocities," subtle deviations in galactic motion that reveal its presence. Adding to the cosmic dance, the Great Attractor itself is moving toward the even larger Shapley Supercluster, weaving a complex tapestry of gravitational forces across the universe. The Great Attractor is a reminder of the unseen forces shaping our cosmic journey, a beacon of mystery that invites us to ponder our place in the grand architecture of the cosmos. On Galactic Tick Day, we honor this celestial enigma with the new single, "The Great Attractor," a sonic exploration of the universe’s profound unity and infinite wonder.
