I have one problem with this shotgun. And it’s the strangest complaint I’ve ever had about a gun. The problem is… It might be too good. This is the Benelli M2-G1. And most people are going to look at it and assume it’s the new M2. It isn’t. The M2 is still out there. Still selling. Still an inertia gun. This is gas operated. Rear piston operated. Dual pistons collecting gas near the chamber. Recoil spring running through the tube behind the receiver, protected and out of the fouling. So Benelli didn’t upgrade the M2. They built a whole new shotgun and parked it between the M2 and the M4. And that’s where it gets interesting. Because the M4 is still the M4. ARGO system. War record. Flagship status. On paper, it still wins. But I’ve shot the M2-G1. And it is way closer than I expected. The recoil goes straight back into your shoulder. The balance is stupid good. The forend is beautiful. The stock works without making you do origami. The grip actually eats recoil. And I keep waiting for the moment where it reminds me I picked the cheaper one. I haven’t found it yet.
