How did a toilet sink a German U Boat? Well in April 1945, The German Submarine U-1206 was cruising 200 feet below the water 15km off the coast of Scotland. But this wasn’t any old submarine because it had one highly sophisticated feature that even the allies didn’t possess, a flushing toilet. Whilst the allied subs kept their No 2s onboard their sub, U-1206 could flush the waste into the sea even whilst at great depths, freeing up room for more important systems. However, flushing the loo wasn’t an easy procedure, you had to open and close certain valves in the right order and on this fateful day some dipshit messed it up, causing water to pour into the forward section of the sub, flooding it’s batteries, generating chlorine gas. The Commander was left with no choice, he had to surface or his crew would surely die. But this came with it’s own massive problems because as soon as the submarine surfaced it was spotted by British patrols forcing the commander to scuttle the submarine. This resulted in 3 of the crew drowning at sea with the other 46 being captured.
