We've spent great time in Bunbury visiting the town centre, some pubs and the Oxford Canal. Here's some details of what we've visited for this Easter celebration: 1. The Banbury Cross Inn (one of our favourites) The Banbury Cross is a historic pub located in Banbury, Oxfordshire, England. The exact date of its construction is not known, but it is believed to have been built in the early 17th century, making it one of the oldest buildings in the town. The pub was originally named the "Cross Inn", but it is said to have been renamed after the nearby Banbury Cross, which is mentioned in the nursery rhyme "Ride a Cock Horse to Banbury Cross". In the 19th century, the pub became a coaching inn, providing accommodation and stables for travellers and their horses. It also became a popular spot for local farmers to sell their livestock at the nearby market. 2. The Coach and Horses Pub (very good food) The Coach and Horses Pub is a historic public house located in Banbury. The building dates back to the 17th century. During the 18th and 19th centuries, the Coach and Horses became a popular haunt for local tradesmen and farmers. It was also frequented by stagecoach passengers travelling between London and the Midlands. 3. The Oxford Canal (great for a walk) The Oxford Canal is a historic waterway that runs for 78 miles from Oxford to Coventry, passing through Banbury on its route. The canal was constructed in the late 18th century for transporting goods, particularly coal, between the Midlands and the south of England. #banbury #oxfordshire #eastercelebration #visitengland #travelvlog #uktravel #exploreoxfordshire #historictown #britishculture #localpubs #oxfordcanal #beautifulscenery #countrysidewalks #englishcountryside #touristdestination Background music from: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=moPFL_X0UzY Thanks #Antumbra | As usual, great music content!
