Twelve years after Cyclone Hudhud devastated Visakhapatnam on October 12, 2014, the memories of the disaster and the efforts made by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu to restore the city remain unforgettable. His leadership during one of the most devastating cyclones in the region's history continues to be remembered by many people in Visakhapatnam. When Hudhud approached the coast with wind speeds of around 185–205 kmph, Chandrababu Naidu immediately focused on emergency preparedness and disaster management. Despite a family celebration at his residence, he held an emergency conference, sent ministers and officials to Visakhapatnam, and mobilized resources to deal with the approaching disaster. The cyclone caused massive destruction across the city. Thousands of trees were uprooted, buildings and vehicles were damaged, the airport infrastructure suffered heavy losses, and essential services, including electricity and communications, were severely disrupted. Naval facilities, the steel plant, and several other important establishments were also affected. Despite difficult weather conditions, Chandrababu Naidu reached Visakhapatnam by road and turned an RTC air-conditioned bus into a temporary secretariat after the hotel where he was supposed to stay suffered damage. He remained closely involved in relief and restoration operations for more than ten days, coordinating with officials and monitoring the situation on the ground.
