What challenges did I face while reporting from the ground, and what was the actual situation between protesters, police and journalists? On Gandhi Jayanti, a protest was held at Jantar Mantar against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over allegations related to “vote theft”. Protesters had travelled from different places to join the demonstration. Despite restrictions around nearby Metro Stations and heavy security deployment, a large crowd managed to reach the protest area. Delhi Police and other security personnel were deployed in large numbers. Preparations to detain protesters appeared extensive, and ground visuals showed several people being physically escorted and carried towards police vehicles and buses. There were also moments of pushing, confrontation and tension. Journalists and media personnel also raised concerns about restrictions on reporting and detention-like action. Protesters accused the police of using excessive force.
