And it might be one of the best arguments for owning a gun. Police in Toledo responded to a home and found a woman holding a shotgun, defending her family from two men who were allegedly fighting with them. One of the men was reportedly living in the home with his girlfriend at the time. He was later charged with domestic violence, assault, and using weapons while intoxicated. So yes, this appears to involve “someone she knew.” But that is the point. Real self-defense is not always a masked stranger climbing through a window. Sometimes it is the boyfriend who lives down the hall. Sometimes it is somebody who was welcome yesterday and became a threat today. And in this case, the woman with the shotgun never had to fire a shot. She pulled it. The threat stopped. The police showed up. The alleged attackers went to jail.
