What are the first signs of dementia? They can be: 1. A loss of spatial navigation (like forgetting where you parked your car) 2. Difficulty finding the right words 3. Confusion 4. Repeating yourself Dementia and Alzheimer’s disease are situations where your neurons cannot get fuel anymore—specifically glucose. This can happen if you have insulin resistance. If you have ketones and glucose in your blood at the same time, your brain will prefer ketones and use them first. Ketones are the byproduct of fat burning. Rarely does anyone run their body on ketones. The first thing you want to do if you are experiencing dementia symptoms is to start feeding your brain ketones. This will help bypass the degraded glucose absorption mechanism that is starving your brain of fuel and begin to feed the neurons directly. There are three ways you can increase your ketones: 1. Lower your carbs 2. Do intermittent fasting 3. Supply your body with healthy fats, like MCT oil and fatty fish DHA, zinc, and vitamin B1 are other important nutrients for supporting a healthy brain. Exercise and sleep are also vital to healthy brain function. Dr. Eric Berg DC Bio: Dr. Berg, age 58, is a chiropractor who specializes in Healthy Ketosis & Intermittent Fasting.
