his Wolverine comic was recalled by Marvel—and I own a copy. But what is it actually worth, and more importantly… what grade will it receive? In this episode of Grading with J... The Easy Way, I'm putting Wolverine #131 (1998) under the microscope. This issue has become one of the better-known examples of a recalled Marvel comic. A lettering error resulted in an offensive term appearing in the published comic. Marvel recalled the issue and subsequently released a corrected version. That makes the original recalled version particularly interesting to comic collectors. But there's an important distinction: A comic being recalled doesn't automatically make it valuable. Scarcity, collector demand, the ability to authenticate the recalled version, historical significance, and—most importantly for this video—the condition of the individual copy all play a role. šŸ”Ž In This Video I'll inspect my recalled Wolverine #131 for: Front cover condition Spine Corners Edges Color and gloss Surface defects Staples Back cover Interior pages Page quality Handling and manufacturing defects Overall structural condition Then I'll reveal my final grade prediction. 🐺 WHY WOLVERINE #131 IS INTERESTING The recalled version of Wolverine #131 has a unique place in Marvel collecting because the published issue contained a serious lettering error that resulted in offensive content appearing in the comic. Marvel subsequently recalled the issue and produced a corrected version. For collectors, that creates an important question: How do you know whether you actually have the recalled version? And then comes the next question: What condition is it in? That's where grading comes in. 9.8 - $120-$125 9.6 - $70-$90 9.4 - $55-$65 9.2 - $30-$60 9.0 - $20-$45 šŸ’¬ YOUR TURN Before I reveal my grade: What grade do YOU think this recalled Wolverine #131 will receive? 9.8? 9.6? 9.4?
