Apparently drifting a Toyota 4Runner on a Forest Service road is a great idea… right up until you turn and the road doesn’t. 😂 In this video, I take my Ford F550 4x4 off-road wrecker up into the woods to recover a Toyota 4Runner after some kids decided to practice their rally driving skills on a mountain road. Unfortunately, the 4Runner lost the argument with a corner and ended up crashed into a tree. After making my way past the homeless camps, abandoned vehicles, and the usual assortment of things that make you question exactly where Google Maps has sent you, I finally found the Toyota firmly attached to the scenery. The first job was getting the 4Runner winched off the tree and back into a position where I could actually tow it. From there, I got the Ford F550 wrecker hooked up and started setting up the Collins tow dollies—which is normally pretty straightforward, unless you’re trying to do it with an injured shoulder. Turns out heavy steel dollies don’t really care what your doctor said. Eventually everything was hooked up, secured, and ready for the trip back down the mountain. We got the wrecked 4Runner safely out of the woods and delivered it back to the owner’s house, where he was left with the slightly more difficult recovery operation: Explaining to Dad what happened. I’m sure the story will involve a deer. Probably a HUGE deer. Came out of nowhere. Absolutely unavoidable. Definitely had nothing to do with drifting corners on a Forest Service road… Fortunately, nobody was hurt, everyone learned a little lesson, and we were able to help another driver who accidentally took one of those pesky imaginary exits.
