A. J. Alan's stories held listeners to the BBC riveted in the 1930s. There are a number of readings of his stories on YouTube but this is the master storyteller himself, reading 'The Fire Bell' on 14 May 1937. His identity was a closely guarded secret; only later did it become known he was Leslie Harrison Lambert, who worked in the Government Code and Cypher School and later at Bletchley Park in code-breaking.
